Seeking details of my grandfather, John Farrelly, who I think was born on 7 Feb 1878 in Lurgan parish, County Cavan.  Parents: John Farrelly, Bridget Lynch.  Emigrated to Australia at about age 30.  Any informaton regarding him or his parents, brothers and sisters would be most welcome.  Want to know where best to obtain a certified copy of his birth certificate once his details confirmed.

  • Each county has a genealogy office where you can obtain birth certificates. The genealogy office for County Cavan is located in the Johnston Library  Building. They charge a small fee, well worth it. It helps if you know the townland name (a sub-division within a village). Here is the link to the genealogy center, with a phone number and e-mail address  at the bottom of the page. Let me know here how you make out.

  • I am working on my Farrelly line at present so I am searching what I can. I know that it is 11 years since you posted but I thought Id put up here the birth record for John:

I see that your John Farrelly was born in Carrigasimon.  That is right next to Kilnagun where our Farrelly family are from.  In fact, Dad (James F Galligan) grew up there! I would be keen to know where you got up to with your research and we may find that our families are connected.   I have been collating information on our Farrelly line which may be of interest to you as well.
