Looking for a Callaghan family of Cavan. John Philip Callaghan married to Bridget Francis Moore. Known children Philip -born c1818, Francis, Patrick, Ann, Susan and William. All of which migrated to Australia from 1841 onwards. Philip and Francis were on the ship"Neptune" as Bounty Immigrants - landed Victoria Mar 1841. All know information regarding this family states only County Cavan as birth place. Port of embarkation is Liverpool, England.
Philip and siblings also had a cousin Patrick Fox - father James Fox married Mary Moore. Patrick's information mentions Templeport, Cavan as birthplace. Patrick Fox came to Victoria, Australia with Ann and Susan Callaghan. Any information would be most appreciated.
I intend visiting Cavan in September 2013, and would really like to find my GGrandfather's birthplace/residence before leaving Ireland.

Dear Marlee,
I would love to be able to help you & we need to find a townland in Templeport. I tried to find clusters of Fox Moore & Callaghan in Templeport without success in 1901 census, I did find 2 houses with Fox see this link
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Cavan/Templeport/Cartr…
Civil registration did not start until 1864
I looked up Tithe applotments*1825) & there are some in Annagh, which is the closest to Templeport
http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/results.jsp?…
There are lots of Moores in Templeport in 1828
http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/results.jsp?…
& the Fox name is also there in 1826

Who was the last to leave?

Not sure but it's possible i might be linked to your Callaghan's you have listed. I've been having a great deal of trouble trying to find more information on my Callaghan relative. The information i've got is my relative went by the name Rosanna (also went by Rose and Anna), born around 1820-1825 in Cavan Ireland to a Phillip Callaghan. Rosanna came to Australian sometime between 1842 and 1852. She met and began having children with Charles Young in 1852 in NSW (no marriage has been found to date). Her kids were Frances, Francis, Charles, Margaret, George, James, William and Mary. She died as a Young in 1905. We have very little information on her and i have been madly trying to seek out who her family was in Ireland. I have never found her entrance to NSW from Europe nor her birth details from Cavan Ireland. Am thinking she may have come to Australia through another state. Am wondering if you have any information on a Rosanna (or similiar) Callaghan? Perhaps somehow the families are linked.

Hi, I can't help about Rosanna Callaghan, I am afraid. As far as I know, there is no-one of that name in my family tree. My ggrandfather's name was Philip b. c1818 but his father was John Philip. Perhaps there may be a link that I haven't come across, but I doubt it. Good luck chasing her down

I have just found my great uncle's birth certificate - and on it states that my Great Grandfather - Philip Callaghan- was born in the parish of Templeport, County Cavan. Any suggestions where I might go from here please? I have tried a couple of variations on the name Callaghan, but perhaps someone might have a better idea. His birthdate seems to be flexible too - his immigration records give the idea he was born in 1818 but his children's birth certificates seem to be saying 1821. I have contacted the Cavan Genealogical Centre and Concepta has looked up records for me but turned up nothing, so it's back to the drawing board!
Any ideas, anyone?
Cheers
Maree.

Thank you Carmel,
I did as you suggested and contacted Cavan Co Library. Concepta McGovern was kind enough to reply to my query, but didn't have anything for me. I have discovered my ggrandfather was born in Parish of Templeport so I thought I would post a message on the Templeport parish board. Perhaps, by some miracle, something might turn up. :)

Maree, is there a townland on the certificate, if you cant read it will you scan in a copy of it. He may have had to be a certain age for the immigration, but 3 years would not worry me. It is hard to go beyond what you have got unless there are headstones & that is such a bonus if you can find one.

Hi Carmel,
I wish that there was a townland on the certificate!! I was a surprise that I managed to have the Parish on there. He had 13 children and only 1 certificate had the parish on it!!! I can't seem to find any immigration papers other than the shipping list - nothing seems to have survived here in Australia for that particular ship. Just my luck! But I will keep looking. My aim is to try and visit Templeport, Cavan in September - even just to get a feel of where he lived. It would be nice to find his parents- John and Bridget, but I have resigned myself to that not happening. As you mentioned, it is hard to go beyond this now. Thank you for your suggestions and offer of help, it is much appreciated.
Regards
Maree.
