I am a descendant of Bridget Duffy b. 15 March 1827-1829 (Ireland). Bridget emigrated to the Americas (ultimately Canada) in 1842 (as per date given in the 1901 census of her brother Dominick) or 1845 (as per some family members). Bridget's two known siblings are Dominick Duffy b. 14 Dec. 1832 (as per the 1901 Census of Sombra Twp., Lambton Co., Ontario, Canada); and Charles Duffy b. 1826 in Cavan, Ireland (as per the Historical Atlas of Lambton County - In 1880 Charles Duffy is recorded as: Charles Duffy, farmer, 100 acres, owner, south 1/2 lot 2, Cons. 7, Sombra Township, Farm value $6,500. Former School Trustee and Pathmaser. Born 1826, Cavan, Ireland. Settled here May 8, 1850).

The siblings seem to have been single upon coming to Canada. Bridget m. abt 1854 in Canada to John Kehoe b. 19 Nov. 1828-1829 in Wexford, Ireland (former Irish Constabulary - emigrated in 1851); Dominick m. Bridget? between 1861-1871 in Canada, and Charles m. bef. 1861 Margaret?, who was born in Ontario, Canada.

Any thoughts? The only baptisms I have found that even come close are in Roscommon, not Cavan.

  • Hi Brian

There is a baptism record of Bridget Duffy 1828 Cavan on www.rootsireland.ie/

You need to purchase credit to view the record but it would give you a parish and POSSIBLY a parent's name - some do have them but may don't.

There is no record of Dominick born in Cavan 1832 but there is in Roscommon 1832

For Charles 1826 there are none in Cavan but 3 others - Limerick Louth and Meath

Do you have access to ancestry.com? The Green and Houle family trees have Bridget born in Wexford 15 March 1827 with PARENTS Dominic & Bridget. Dominick born 1833 - which is later than his daughter Bridget!!

  • Col,

Thank you for responding. The baptism is interesting and may be one I have to look up. I noticed the baptisms in Roscommon (via the LDS site, and ancestry). As to the ancestry family trees, they are relatives of mine, and they mixed up some information. At this point no one has taken the tree back on either John Kehoe, or Bridget Duffy. I was only recently able to sift through all the information and find the right service record for John Kehoe (Royal Irish Constabulary - unfortunately paid $25 pounds for a transcript - was hoping the high cost was a copy of the original - but the document had the identical information that John Kehoe claimed to be his origin, and occupation, and emigration). I again appreciate your taking the time to look up the information and I will have to look at the baptism. Thanks again!!!

  • There is another Bridget Duffy who seems to be my great great grandmother born in 1933 approx in Cavan Ireland married a Michael McDonald. Bridget seems to have died in Scotland in 1896. I presently live in Ontario Canada born to Scottish parents and I also lived in Scotland during my childhood. I have just learned of my Irish connection recently
