I am a descendant of Bridget Duffy b. 15 March 1827-1829 (Ireland). Bridget emigrated to the Americas (ultimately Canada) in 1842 (as per date given in the 1901 census of her brother Dominick) or 1845 (as per some family members). Bridget's two known siblings are Dominick Duffy b. 14 Dec. 1832 (as per the 1901 Census of Sombra Twp., Lambton Co., Ontario, Canada); and Charles Duffy b. 1826 in Cavan, Ireland (as per the Historical Atlas of Lambton County - In 1880 Charles Duffy is recorded as: Charles Duffy, farmer, 100 acres, owner, south 1/2 lot 2, Cons. 7, Sombra Township, Farm value $6,500. Former School Trustee and Pathmaser. Born 1826, Cavan, Ireland. Settled here May 8, 1850).

The siblings seem to have been single upon coming to Canada. Bridget m. abt 1854 in Canada to John Kehoe b. 19 Nov. 1828-1829 in Wexford, Ireland (former Irish Constabulary - emigrated in 1851); Dominick m. Bridget? between 1861-1871 in Canada, and Charles m. bef. 1861 Margaret?, who was born in Ontario, Canada.

Any thoughts? The only baptisms I have found that even come close are in Roscommon, not Cavan.

  • Translated from French.

There is a Dominique Duffy who marries a Bridget Lahey in Lachine (a suburb of Montreal) Quebec on January 21, 1865 at l'Ange Gardien (Church of the Guardian Angel) .  He is the adult son of John Duffy and Margaret Cannon of County Donegal, Ireland, residing in the parish.  She is the adult daughter of Patrick Lahey and Margaret Morttrey/Monttery (writing is difficult to decipher), all of the parish.  Witnesses are:  Daniel McIntyre and Peter O'Brien, friends of the groom and Michael Lahey, brother and James McManus, friend of the bride.

If you think he might be yours and you want a copy of the original record, please send me your e-mail address and I will forward a copy to you.

  • Thank you for the offer. I have previously copied the Dominick Duffy and Bridget Lahey marriage repetoire from Drouin. After some time following that family, I concluded based upon locale, and the appearance of two distinct families in the records, that the marriage was for a different family. Again, I appreciate your response and appreciate your offer of help.
