Hi I joined through Facebook and someone from irelandxo suggested I add my relatives to roll call under Mayo. In my  papers James the oldest sold born in 1797 was born in Belturbet along with the next 6 children but it says county Cavan?

  • Belturbet is in Co. Cavan, not Mayo.

  • If you search the online Tithe Applotment List, there were several Moores living in the parish of Annagh (which I believe became Belturbet) in 1825. The townland is given for some of them. Even though your Henry left in 1821, some of these Moores may have been his family.

  • Thank you Patricia. I just now received your reply and am going to view. Henry died there in a fire in a church or building where others were gathered, through story told his wife dragged him out and he died while she went to get help. She made it to Canada along with 6 children and a Jackson brother and cousin?. the oldest was married here in Ontario in 1823, James Moore b. 1797. I don’t know the ship. The Moore’s were very dedicated here to the St Andrews Presbyterian church. One was a missionary. I’ll keep searching. Thanks again.

  • I have seen notes that said that had Armagh in them, maybe births. They incorrectly transcribed  Annagh maybe.

  • Thanks Pat to the link about the silver bowl. I forwarded it to Kevin Jackson which I found through A DNA test. If I find my Moore’s in Ireland I’ll let them know it was a hard first go but my James tenacity paid off. He stayed in Ontario, at least 2 original farms 200 acres each still in Moore name.
