My ancestors were known as The Nesbitts Of Hesth Lodge Kingscourt  Co. Cavan. Edward married in about 1818 Susanna Wilson eldest daughter of Captain Wilson of Shinan House Co Cavan They had three sons and two daughters In about 1853 Doctor William Kerr  Nesbitt their second son, born 1818  a graduate of Trinity Dublin who had been in practioce in  Rostrevor Dublin foe about 15 years made plans to emigrate to New Zealand  three months after the birth of his first child ,William. Unfotunately his wife Ann Martin died in childbirth The family decided to continue with their plans leaving baby William to be brought up by his matenal grandparents, the Wilsons of Shinan House Co. Cavan, until he was old enough to travel to N.Z. He never made the journey Dr. Nesbitt became a magistrate and eventuallu Resident Magistrate in Gisborne where he died along with two sisters brother Geoge and his mother Susannah , born 1792,., The edest son Edward remauined in Ireland Mymother Kathlee Florence Nesbitt believed that the family were descended from as shipowner in the West Of Scotland who was granted lands in Donegal for his part in tansporting people to Donegal in the early 1700's

    I live not too far from Shercock & today I went to the Church of Ireland Graveyard & found nothing, same with Presbyterian Graveyard in Glassleck, Shercock, I searched the Tithe applotments & Griffiths Valuation & found nothing for suitable for those names in Shercock.

    Shinan House is where Rev Adams lived, do you know if there is any connection with them?

    There are Nesbitts in Kingscourt, but I dont know if they have any knowledge of  family history.

  • Hi Edward,

    My husband is descended from Mary Nesbitt who married John Sillery of Cregg,Nobber,Co. Meath. They had a son ,William Ker Sillery ,b1816 d 1844. Mary was born c.1785 and died 1870. Her mother may have been Anne ??  b.c.1766,d 1845. There is a Sillery gravestone in Syddan, Co. Meath (photo attached)

    I was unable to open the photo, but it may be more to do with the site.. This looks good with the repeat of William Ker in the name.

    Have just checked the photo and it opened for me.Will see if Edward can open it before re-posting it.Have more info.for Edward including a transcription of the gravestone ..

    " This stone was erected by John Sillery of Cregg in memory of his --- sons and mother-in-law. John Sillery Jnr departed this life May 4th 1835 aged 16 years.William Ker Sillery departed this life Dec 6th 1844 aged 28 years.Mrs. Anne Nesbitt departed this life April 5th 1845 aged 79 years.Sacred to the memory of Maria the beloved wife of Nathaniel Sillery who departed this life on the 12th day of Feb 18---- (illegible ) aged 27 years.Also John Sillery Senior ------- aged 7(?)1.Also his beloved wife Mary Sillery Senior who departed this life April 12th 1870(?) aged 8- years.

    Sacred to the memory of Isabella the beloved wife of Nathaniel Sillery who departed this life 21st july 1884 (1881 ?) aged 45 years.Also Nathaniel Sillery who departed this life Dec 22 1899 aged 78 years."

    Edward,I presume you are familiar with www.nisbetts.co.uk/archives/nesbio.htm ? It will save me doing up the family tree for you, Do you have any old photos of the family? We have some Sillery people in photos but can't identify individuals.
