John Brooks, my second great grandfather, was born unknown and died 1842 In Goulbourn Township. Carleton Co., Ontario, Canada. He married Susannah (Mary) Hillock/Wellock May 5, 1799 in Swanlinbar Church of Ireland. She was born unknown and probably died in Ireland. John and Susannah (or Mary - I received the information this way and don't know if she went by Susannah or Mary) had three sons, all born in Ireland, Edward, born about 1803, Skelton born December 1804 and Thomas born about 1810. Edward was baptised in Swanlinbar Church of Ireland October 9, 1803. The information I have states that Skelton and Thomas were born in Co. Fermanagh. Because the marriage and first child's baptism were in Swanlinbar Church of Ireland I have joined Co. Cavan. I hope that John and his wife were from there. The information I received from my cousin in the US states Swanlinar Church of Ireland. I'm not sure which church this refers to - St. Nicholas?
Any information or research tips you can provide will be gratefully received.

The Church of Ireland in Swanlinbar is St Augustine?s. Birth, death & marriage records start in 1798. There?s a copy in PRONI, Belfast. They are not on-line anywhere as far as I am aware so you would need to get someone to look them up for you.
Swanlinbar is more or less on the border between Cavan & Fermanagh and part of the parish (Kinawley) is in Co. Fermanagh, and part in Co. Cavan. Therefore it wouldn?t be odd for someone attending church in Swanlinbar to be born in Fermanagh.

Hello Jane:
I am a great great grandaughter of Skelton Brooks and Catherine Brady. Skelton's tombstone states that he was born in Fermanagh. His son Thomas married a Susannah.Rutledge . 1842 census of Upper Canada states that Skelton had been in the country for 15 years but Skelton was in the 66th regimentt of Foot and probably arrived in Quebec in 1827 when the regiment was deployed there. There are a lot of Knawley people who settled near the Brooks ie Rutledge, Tubman , Brownlee , Carruthers etc.
Probably none of this is news to you but its fun doing the research. I am located in Ottawa and knew a lot of Hamiltons . My grandfather was Beatty Hamillton . I knew his sisters Dora and Sarah , also brother Will/ Never met the other brothers. I have info on the early years i
