Hi I am trying to find the birth record of my great grandfather James Sheridan who was born between 1859 and 1864, but I think around 1862 or 1863.  He was from Cornakill near Mullagh.  Per his church marriage record (to Anne Carpenter) in Collon Louth 1880 his father was Patrick Sheridan.  I have reviewed the Mullagh register in the National Library and did not find his baptism there.  He and his family were bakers and lived in Cornakill, I believe there is a lane in Cornakill called the Lane to Baker Sheridan's.  I do not know if this is connected to them.  He moved to Dublin and I have his census records for that time but I would like to find his baptism  record (RC).

  • Thank you for your message. You may try checking this site http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/browse/counties/rcmaps/cavanrc.htm for the availablity of registers in the surrounding parishes - as the baptism may have been recorded outside the immediate parish.

  • Dear Ann,

My great grandmother was Ellen Sheridan from Cornakill and was one of the "baker" sheridans. She married Philip Smyth from next townland, Corryrourke, mullagh. I have her death cert and she was born in 1840. She had a brother Michael Sheridan but i dont have any more info on that family. My email address is roisinsmyth1@hotmail.com.
