I am always trying to find out more about my ancestors in and around Shercock. I have found a couple of headstones in the Shercock Church of Ireland Graveyard for some of the Kennedy's. I would be so very happy to see pictures of any other headstones or photo's of where they lived. I do have a picture of the home that Sadie Kennedy lived in. Also the info on Eva Kennedy Scahill who drowned in Lough Sillan in 2002. Anything that could be made available to me would be such a treasure

Thank you for any assistance

Regards

  • Hi DeLories,

Many thanks for your message.  I have some photographs of Shercock Graveyard under Galleries on the Bailieborough, Cavan Parish and there are a couple for Kennedys there, I dont have the whole graveyard there as they were taken for another person.  Is the townland Carrickacreeney?  If so I can make enquiries for you from someone who lives there.  I had not heard of that drowning in 2002, but I can make enquiries if once you confirm the townland.

  • I do have two pictures of headstones of the Kennedy's. 1) Thomas Kennedy with, Mary Ann, Thomas Allen and Eva Kennedy Scahill. Not sure what her husbands first name might be. 2) William Kennedy with wife Sarah Ann Roundtree Kennedy. They are all Carrickacreeney. These are in the Shercock Church of Ireland, Graveyard. Forgive my lack of knowledge but is Shercock and Carrickacreeney two different places?

As far back as I can get is John Kennedy Sr born before 1761 who married Unknown. They had 2 sons that I know of: John Jr born in the late 1780s and then Samuel born about 1789 who married Martha Last name unknown. But one thing I do know about her is the following: At the time of her death she was at the Bailieboro Workhouse as a labourer. The person who reported her death was Benjamin McCabe, Master of the Workhouse. She died of Bronchitis 2 Mar 1864. Samuel had died before Martha. Samuel and Martha had 3 children known: 1. Samuel b about 1810, 2. James born 8 Aug 1816 who married Martha "Mary Ann" Brown whose father was Abraham Brown(e) 1786-1865 & Jane LIndsay (these are my GG Grandparents. James and Martha came to Canada. I have a lot of info on them. 3. William 1823-1898 who married Jane Bell 1830-1906(she was from Fermanagh.) They, also, came to Canada. All, except stated stayed in Ireland. First I will see Carrickicreeney and then I see Shercock. Back to Abraham Brown(e) and Jane Lindsay: Abraham was born in Drung Parish and died in Killcrossbeg(Shercock) and Jane was born and died in Killcrossbeg. Abraham's father was Robert Brown(e) Baptised in the Church of Ireland Shercock in 1768 who married a Sarah. Robert and Sarah had 5 children: Tee Abraham above, Jane, William, Sarah and John

Well, I think I have probably told you more than you might want to know. Just not sure what info I could give to you that might be of any help. Please feel free to use any info you would like when you might have the time. Also, I do have a website that you are more than welcomed to visit: www.deloriesvaughn.tribalpages.com

Next, Thank you so very much for taking an interest in my plight. My Ancestors are treasures to me and I want to honor them however it might be possible.

    Again, thank you

  • Hi DeLories,

I had a quick look at your website and it is great, you have a lot of information there.

I got to talk to someone who knew who Eva was & I can fill you in more but I would prefer to give you the details via a private email.  My email is ocallaghan.carmel@gmail.com, if you would contact me I will give you the relevant details.

In general Carrickacreeney is a townland, that is a name give to a area that is made up of fields with homes thereon.  Shercock is the nearest town and it has about 1000 people living in it.  Shercock would be the postal district for Carrickacreeney.  So if you were writing to someone, their address would be Carrickacreeney, Shercock, Co. Cavan.

So if you send me an email I can give you more information.
