Hello Irish Community.
I am looking for info on my gg grandparents Michael Murphy and Margaret Brennon
Margaret Brennen (Brennan/Brennon)
Birth: Dec 1841 IRELAND (believe to be Co. Clare)
Death: 22 or 26th Oct 1900 Clinton, Clinton Co., IA
Burial: St. Mary's Cemetery, Clinton, IA. Shares a tombstone with husband Michael and son Thomas J.
Michael Murphy
Birth: Jan 1839 or 1840 IRELAND (believe to be Co. Clare)
Death: 1915
Burial: St. Mary's Cemetery, Clinton, IA. Shares a tombstone with wife Margaret and son Thomas J. Murphy NOTE: on tombstone Michael is spelled “Micheal.” Could be misspelled or the old Gaelic spelling
It seems they did not meet until they were both in Iowa, BOONE COUNTY specifically, and married in CLINTON, IOWA in 1865. Believe Michael's emigration year to be 1851 or 1859 and Margaret's 1863.
They had 7 to 10 children:
*Michael E. Murphy (believe E. is for Edward) born 1868 in Boone, Iowa death 1958 in Clinton, Iowa. Married Kathryn/Catherine Troy/Trie. 5 children: Camilla (MURPHY) Christinse, Virginia (MURPHY) Moore, Margaret (MURPHY) HIGGINS, James Edward aka "Jim" , and Eugene F. Murphy
*Thomas J. Murphy born 1869 Iowa. Death 1904 Iowa. no know children or marriage
*John Edward Murphy b. 1871 or 1875 Iowa. Death 1923. Married Mary Elizabeth Sullivan. 1 child, Angela Mary (Murphy) Mikkelsen
*Margaret (aka Maggie) Murphy born 1877 death unknown. Married Edward Gaffey of Sterling, Illinois. 1 know child: Ruth (Gaffey) Allen
*Elizabeth (aka Lizzie) Murphy born 1879 Iowa. Death 1932 likely Iowa. Married Lawrence Rimmer. children unknown
*Frank Murphy born 1882
*William Murphy born 1885
I am specifically trying to find any bothers/sisters/mom/dad of Michael and Margaret to help track down where in Ireland my family is from and to hopefully find some long lost cousins. Any info at any time would be wonderful.
Thank you very kindly,
brea murphy
