I would be grateful for any information on the above family, particularly Malachy c 1796 who married Mary Morrissy c 1814 and had John, Martin, c 1816, Mary, Margaret and Thomas. Matin married Mary Hayes about 1841. Malachy occupied townland in the1825 Tithe Applotment Books. It seems Thomas inherited the land as he is listed in the 1855 Griffiths Land Valuations as leasing 10 acres from H Butler. Malachy may have had brothers, Hugh and John. The three brothers are listed as a freeholders, entitled to vote in 1821.
Thank you, Elaine

Elaine:
Welcome to ireland Reaching Out!
The RC parish is Quin/Clooney and baptismal records start in 1816 http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0774 On the Find My Past data base of RC church records I located three baptismal records-- Margret in 1824, Mary in 1821 and an illegible named child in 1816. Maybe you can spend some time with the image on the register and try to determine the name.
There was a Quigley family in the 1901 census for Knockanoura http://census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Clare/Clooney/Knockanoura/…

Hi Elaine,
Have you found any connection to this branch in your research? the Birth date of 1845 may not be 100% as I haven't managed to find the cert and the age is based on 1901 Census age.
Regards.
Mark

Hi Mark,
Thanks for the reply. I am confused as to the meaning of your message. What branch do you mean? I am descended from Martin, c 1816. Who was born in 1845? Elaine

It would have helped to add this information. I had it ready to copy and paste, but didn't add it to the post.
John Maurice Quigley was born in 1845, but that is based on the census ages being correct, which may not be the case. He came from Afflick/Knockjames, but I haven't been able to figure out who and how he was related to the other Quigleys in the 1901 census in Afflick/Knockjames/Clooney(in 1901 John was in Scariff) or in other records of the quigleys in or from the area. He was a Baker and had a shop in Scariff until (as the story goes) he lost a contract to supply the local workhouse because of some bribery by another rival baker. Then there are the deaths of two daughters in 1901 and 1903 and the 1911 Census finds them in Killaloe.

Mark,
I think the underlining issue for your research (Quigley's in Clare) is that the vast majority of them left in the 1830's and 40's. I think the John Quigley that you are seeking was the son of James Quigley and Ellen Guinty (McGinty). John also had a sister named Ann (1850). I could be mistaken.
Your original post was from 2016, so hopefully you are still around fighting the good fight.
