Hello,

I am looking for any information on my family from Lisseycasey. My grandfather came to New York after growing up in Crovaghan. I know most of my family in the area but I wanted to learn more on his great-grandparents. Daniel and Mary lived in Lisseycasey.

Daniel was born around 1844 and passed away in 1902. He is buried in Clondegad, alone, which I thought was a bit odd.

Mary Crowe was born aroubd 1845 and passed away in 1911. I have no idea where she is buried.

Together they had 10 children I believe. A few of the children left Ireland for America, two went to Vermont and died. Two more went to New York. Others stayed in Ireland, locally.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

  • Dear SPO:

Thank you for your post to the Ireland Reaching Out message board.  I see that Daniel McNamara lived in Lissycasey in the 1901 Census which is why he was probably buried in Clondegad graveyard.  The Census return link is here:  http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Clare/Lisacasey/Lisacasey/1076377/

As to a headstone, I don’t see any noted in the Clare Library headstone inscriptions which have been recorded.

You should check the 1911 Census returns for this family to see if you can follow them forward.  You can also check the Clare Champion death notices which are available on the Clare Library website as well as the Irish genealogy website for civil events for those family members who remained.  The websites are below:

    http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/genealog.

If you need further assistance, please let me know.

    All the best,

    Jane.

  • The Mother probably moved in with one of the children who remained in Ireland, and was buried in the parish they lived in. That is likely why you don't find her here.

  • I have still to reseach some of this but I have

    29 Jun 1877  Patrick

09 Mar 1879 Daniel  Mary is listes as Crome - I have found Cron and Crom with and without an e a vital piece of search information in this counties records.

The rest will probably be state records - Kilrush would be the district to start at

    www.irishgenealogy.ie

I have Mary's parents as Francis Crowe = Bridget Roche / Rourke and Mary is the first child

The second, Anne, is a survivor of the 1851 census records

    then

52 Margaret, 54 Susanna, 58 Patrick, 60 Jeremiah, 64 Jane - thren state records? I don't have as yet this is work in progress.

I have possible families for some of Mary's siblings if this is of any interest. In case you have more information than I because this post is four years old I would appreciate discussing this family more?

    Best wishes,

    Shay
