My name is Emily; i'm 22 years of age and started dreaming of Ireland a couple of years ago. I was drawn...wasn't sure why...My mum 'Jane' had told me that she was adopted as a baby but never went into much detail. when she realised my Irish blood was running deep (I'm very spiritual, bubbly and 'mother-natured') she told me about her past...OK, it's quite complex, but i'll do my best to stick to the facts, i do have a tendancy to go off track; i can talk, boy can i talk! :) So, here it goes...

My mum was born 'Tina Marie Vincent McCarthy' in July 16th 1960. Luckily she still has most of her adoption paperwork, so i have all the facts in front of me now. My grandma was/is 'Catherine Vincent McCarthy' born 24/09/1933, which is touching as my birthday is 22/09/1990 :) My gran came to England from Ennis in 1950 and stayed with 'Mrs Murdoch' her sister. She was an Assistant Nurse. My gran was/is one of 9 siblings. Only the one sister in England knew of my mum's existence...My gran was estranged from her husband 'Robert Vincent' in 1958, 2 years before my mum was born. My grandad/ mum's dad was/is 'Cardl Knuckolls' (American with Irish extraction) he was 34 in 1960 when my mum was born. Gran and Grandad knew each other only a brief time (10 months) they met at a dance and gran found out soon after she was pregnant with mum. Grandad didn't stay-by gran as he was infact married hiself with a family in America. He was a Staff Sargeant in the U.S.A.A.F. Gran and mum stayed at 'The Lodge, Faversham Road, Kennington, Ashford' for a while. My gran is described on mum's records as 'Vivacious, kindly and capable; always thinking of others and always working. A good mother.' Just like the characteristics of her daughter (my mum) and one of her grand-daughters (myself.) Gran simply couldn't afford to keep mum and on August 30th 1960, mum was admitted to Felixstowe. On the 12/06/1961 mum was legally adopted by the 'Cantrells' and become 'Jane Marie Cantrell.' Mum married my father (waste-of-space) and had three daughters including myself. When she married dad, she then became, 'Jane Dodd.' She never changed her name back after divorcing my father, as all her children were 'Dodd' anyway, I'm definitely rambling now aren't i...? Right, so you're probably thinking, 'But why do you care, or why do you need to find the McCarthys' this is why...I know in my heart that gran didn't want to give my mum away, she is so much like myself and my mum from her description. As a child, my friends would speak of their grans, grandads, aunties, uncles and so on and it always made me sad. Mum was fabulous and brought us up extremely well, but for me, there's always been something missing...I'm very family orientated anyway, but haven't really met anyone as 'quirky' as me before. The magic and mystery and love of ireland is calling me. If anyone knows where i may find the McCarthys, please email me. We're family! :) what's better than that?...nothing. :) x x x
