I looked up the 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Killeely civil parish. There was a Charles Canty listed for Derrymore townland and a Mary McMahon for Moneenagliggin South townland. I would suspect that Charles was the father of Patrick.

I also located the 1901 census record for the Catherine McMahon family in Moneennagliggin South ( Thomas had died) and the Patrick Canty family in Derrymore. You can go to www.census.nationalarchives.ie to look at the 1911 census.

  • Margaret,

My gr grandparents were Michael Rohan and Elizabeth Dolan m. c. 1932 in the parish of Meelick/Parteen.  A witness was Richard Dolan (brother to Elizabeth ?) who married Honor Canty in the same parish March 1, 1834.  Cratloe, and Derrymore were the residences where the children of Michael Rohan & Elizabeth Dolan were born.  A witness at Richard's marriage was Michael Dolan.  I have a Primary Valuation of Tenements record (date unknow) for a Michael Dolan leasing a house from Cornelius McMahon in Ballintlea North.    In the Griffith's Valuation, Michael Rohan was leasing a house from ?? Canty.  A number of years ago, I corresponded with decendants of this Canty family.

Here in Chicago, I have some church records for my Co. Clare family (Mason & Hayes also) that list Canty as a witness.

If you should see a connection or would like more information, I'd be happy to share.

it seems we have people that are similar  but not exact, my canty sisters came to Chicago, but the name Honor wasn't one of them but may be an aunt or grandmother...one niece was named honor in Chicago.
