HI,

I'm new here so bear with me.  My gr-gr-grandfather was James Bonfield, likely from near Kilrush.  He had two brothers who also came to Chicago before 1850 - Michael Bonfield and Martin Bonfield.  I am trying to find out who their parents were.

Possibilities are these 3 fellows I found on Tithe Applotment Books:

Thomas Bonfield of Gower Townland, Kilmacduane Parish in 1825

John Bonfield of Ballymacrennan, Killimer in 1824

Joseph Bonfil of Carnacalla, Kilrush in 1826

Can anyone help with these folks and this name?

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

We have had a few Bonfield messages recently around the Kilrush area so you may want go to the search routine and look at the other Bonfield messages. I did look at a data base on Find My Past  which has RC parish records. I could not find records for James, Martin or Michael. I would be inclined to drop Kilrush as an option since those records start in 1827 http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0808  The Kilmacduane records start in 1853 http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0808 and the Killimer records start in 1859 http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0792  so it is possible your Bonfields were from one of those two parishes and records are no longer available.

Have you considered autosomal DNA testing?

  • Hello G Sully

My great great grandfather was Thomas Bonfil.circa 1800- 1896

He died in Moneen Loop Head Co Clare, but my recent research places him in Gower Kilmacduane  up to and including 1825. 1n 1854 a sponsor at his daughter’s baptism was a Martin Bonfil.

I have no records of my great great grandfather’s siblings.Intetested to hear of your relatives in the USA.

    Thank  you.
