Hello

I am trying to find information about my great grandmother, Delia Sullivan Cowden. Delia's parent were Michael & Mary (Lahiff) Sullivan of Cooraclare. Delia is said to have been born Dec. 27, 1878 but I question this. Delia came over to the U.S. in 1900 & settled in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Delia did have a brother, Patrick J. (b. Apr.11, 1873) & a sister, Catherine, (b. May 8, 1878). By looking at her sister's birth date you can see why I question Delia's.

I found on Ancestry, a record for a Mary Sullivan born to Michael & Mary (Lahiff) Sullivan on July 14, 1871. I believe this may be my great grandmother, Delia. I have been told that "Delia" is a nickname for Bridget so I am wondering if my great grandmother may have been Mary Bridget. Also in the Ancestry records I found another brother, John (b. June 30, 1875).  I did find John on the 1901 & 1911 Irish Census & saw that he remained in Ireland & raised a family. I have not been able to find any further information on him or his children.

I contacted the church - St. Senan's to see if they had any baptismal records for Delia & her siblings but have not had a reply back.

I do not live in Ireland so it is hard for me to do much research that isn't online. Would anyone have suggestions for me or even a suggestion of a genealogist? Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you, Lisa

I checked www.familysearch.org for children of Michael Sullivan and Mary Lahiff in Co. Clare. I found the four you mentioned plus a Michael born August 8th, 1880. I looked for a civil birth index record for the 1871 birth (which is below). She was not registered as Mary Bridget but as Mary. You can get a copy of this record from the GRO. Their web site has moved and can be found at this link http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx  Check the link to print out a birth certificate form in Enlglish. You will get a screen asking for a User Name and Password. Cancel out of the screen and you should get the application. Fill out the form and also provide the year of birth, registration district (Kilrush) and the volume and page number ( 14 and 371). Make sure you ask for a copy which costs around 4 euros. You can ask the GRO to e-mail you the copy.

If the 1871 birth is not Delia, I'm speculating that Delia/Bridget may have been born Dec. 27, 1876. This is based on just looking at the gaps in ages between the other children.
