Your project has been brought to my attention by the Genealogy Society of NT.For years I have been trying to find some evidence the parents of my grandfather Michael Boland.Michael emigrated to Australia in 1853, claiming to be 21.  (I doubt this, as he gave a different age on marriage, and his family gave yet another  age on his death. His parents were Thomas Boland and Bridget Minogue.Thomas Boland is mentioned in the Griffiths Valuations.  He leased property in the Townland of Annagh, Parish of Feakle, Co Clare.I can find no evidence of Thomas and Bridget’s marriage, nor can I find their deaths.Michael had a sister Margaret who emigrated to Australia in 1859, but died un-married, 2 years later from blood poisoning. He also had a brother James who came to Australia from America in the 1880s.  James married in Australia, but had no family.Bridget Minogue had a brother Simon Minogue who emigrated to Australia in 1841.  When Michael Boland arrived here (Australia) he stayed with Simon Minogue at Portland in Victoria, until he became self-sufficient. Family folk lore has it that there were about 13 in the Boland family.  I have not had any luck finding anu others, apart from the three already mentioned.

  • Hi Judy

Many thanks Judy for your genealogy message.  If you log on to the www.galwayemigrantindex. GALWAY EMIGRANT INDEX 1828 - 1866, you will find those surnames, not sure if they are any relatives, but it is worth a try.

    Good luck with your research,

let us know how you go.

    Regards
