Looking for information on my GGGrandfather John James Casey born abt 1846 ?Milltown Malbay ? Kilmurry (Ibrickan). Parents listed on his death certificate as James Casey and Mary Elizabeth O'Dwyer. One known sister Mary Elizabeth (or Elizabeth Mary) born abt 1850 ?Milltown Malbay. Family were Roman Catholic.

They all emmigrated to South Australia in abt 1857. John James later moved to Wellington, New Zealand, married  Theresa Mary Pagon and died in 1900 aged 54 years. His sister Mary Elizabeth married John Casey in Kapunda, South Australia and died in Broken Hill, New South Wales, Australia in 1917. 

I have explored all known on-line resources in an attempt to find more information on my Casey ancestors in Ireland. Any information greatly appreciated.

  • Hi Amlyn,

    There is one John Casey born in Miltown Malbay 5 August 1846 to John Casey and Mary Fitzgibbon. As the Casey name was found mostly in Quilty in the parish of Kilmurray Ibrikane i would imagine that this is a better bet. I will see what i can find for you in the next couple or weeks. There was a Casey Man from Miltown who emigrated to Aus and was responsible for the development of the first law books in Aus. I believe it is still called "Casey's law" to this day and still in use. Have you ever heard of this?

  • Thanks so much for looking into this for me. I'm not aware of the Casey law but I do know of a James Joseph Casey whoe emmigrated to Australia and became a judge in Victoria. I have a NZ newspaper article which states he was a cousin of my John James Casey but I can't find a link. Regards

  • Try a post on Clare librry website clare past forum. Lucille Ellis was related to Judge Casey, is an O'Dwyer researcher and may know of the connection

    I would think the Casey law thing is a joke as its normally case law
