Hi,

 

I'm looking for information about my ancestor who came from Clare.  I believe my 2nd great grandfather and grandmother, Peter Cummings (born around 1835?) and Ellen Lynch (born around 1837?) may have lived in Tulla. I believe that Peter and Ellen continued to reside in Clare and most likely died there as well.  My great grandfather, James Cummings was born 1874 in Clare, Ireland and died 1915 in Wilmington, DE, USA.  The Information I obtained is from his marriage and death certificates, which also stated his parents names.  I'm aware of the resources provided by the Clare Library, which contain a wealth of information, but I have not been able to make a strong connection to my family.  Are you aware of Cummings' family members who reside in Clare that have been researching their family?  My husband and I  plan on visiting Ireland next summer to visit our ancestors home towns.  Any help you can provide would be apprciated.

    Many thanks for your query.  I will at the parish office this week and I can check that information out for you.  In addition, you can check Griffith's Valuation online at the Clare County Library website.  This was essentially a census taken in 1855 in County Clare for all householders.

    I had a look for you, and unfortunately nothing appears in the Tulla registers. 

    I did a quick surname check on Griffith's Valuation and it appears that Cummins is in the Kilrush area for a number of families.  I will ask someone there in Kilrush Reaching Out to try to answer your query.
