My Great-Grandmother- Katherine McNamara- came to the United States in 1885 at the age of 20-- I believe she had a sister already in the US but her family remained in Ireland. Her Father was Thomas McNamara and her mother was Katherine (O'Donnell) McNamara- she had a brother Patrick - and they were from county Clare. That is all I know for sure-I suspect she had someone in her family named Michael because one of her sons (my great uncle) was named Michael and so was her grandson.. I believe I found the family in the census of 1901 and also in the 1911 census- in some other records- based on this information. There was only one family that fit all the information I had in the census and they lived in O'Callaghan's  in 1901 and my great, great grandfather was a shoe/bootmaker and so was his son ( according to the census).  I am planning a trip to Ireland next summer and would love to visit the area and look for any records that might help with my search- I have had some correspondence from a very nice and helpful woman when I left a message on a different parish site, but I have since found out that Tulla may be a more appropriate place to look- Any help or information you can give me would be very much appreciated!- thank you Andrea Pulido

( I have pictures of my Great grandmother and her sister that I could post if it would help)

  • Dear Andi:

i just saw your message this morning. I will phone the very knowledgeable lady that I spoke of and meet her this week or next.  She had offered to show me the house & I will try to photograph it for you. Thanks for continuing to post for new information. We are trying to put together a lot of local information to make it easier to trace.

I will get back to you again in the next week or so.

    Kind regards,
