I believe my great-great-great grandfather, Dennis Mealakan, was listed in the County Clare Tithe Applotment Books as an occupier of land in Knockmeal which is a subdivision of the Ballyblood Townland.

The occupiers for Knockmeal (Ballyblood Townland) were recorded on 11th February 1827.

Some other occupiers in Knockmeal (Ballyblood Townland) included Malachy Hogan, William Hogan, Snr. and William Hogan, Jnr.

Mealakan is variant spelling of Melican.  Dennis Mealakan (also known as Denis Melican) married Margaret Hogan.  Whether Margaret was related to the other aforementioned Hogans is unknown.

Denis Melican and Margaret Hogan had 6 known children:

1) Matthew (born between 1808 and 1816)
2) Nora (born before 1819)
3) John (born before 1819)
4) Patrick (baptized 23 March 1819)
5) Bridget (baptized 03 April 1821)
6) Mary (born 1829)

One of their 6 children, John Melican, married Mary Butler.  John and Mary (n?e Butler) Melican had two children born in Knockmeal (Ballyblood Townland):

Patrick in 06 Apr 1848
Mathew in 19 Nov 1849

Sometime between 19 November 1849 and 28 Jun 1852, the Melicans left Knockmeal (Ballyblood Townland) and settled in the town of Tulla.
