I have very little information on my ancestor John Carroll, born approximately 1810 in Ireland and his wife Mary Ann Burns, born approximately 1830 in Ireland. I've always been told they were from County Cork. The interesting thing is, they just seem to have appeared in Illinois around 1840 - I cannot find any record of where they arrived or when. They had one and possibly two children, my great grandfather James William (1869-1941) and possibly Edward (1865-?).
No family members have any info, and I'm sure they were not wealthy people, as James William was not. I wish I had more information! Any help?
