Hello, I am trying to find my family. On our certificates our ancestor has put he was from Cork City.
He is William Sullivan was born in 1825, I have no. Proof from Ireland, his mother is Catherine Denny/Denney 1792-1870 she died in Australia. She arrived into Melbourne Australia on the 6th of August 1853, She was. 61 Catherine's husband Eugene Sullivan is someone I just can't find after the five siblings and their mother left for Australia. There were 7 children, Daniel 1818, Patrick 1820, not sure if he came to Australia but I know he was deceased by 1870. Jane 1821 William 1825, John 1830 Eugene and Mary 1836. and his father is Owen/ Eugene? Sullivan, I cannot find anything about him.
The spelling on Denny changes from certificate to certificate. And the same with the fathers first name. Sometimes it's Owen, others it's Eugene. He called one of his sons Eugene so I'm thinking he was Eugene?
Their church was St Finbarr, South. Cork.
Thanks for the chance to ask.

Hello again!
www.irishgenealogy.ie has church records for part of Co. Cork. I searched for a baptismal record for William Sullivan with a mother with the surname of Denny. They have the records for St. Finbars which is the Cork South parish but I did not see that they have records for St. Marys and St. Peters which are the other RC churches in Cork city at that time.
Here are the registers for all three parishes. I would search for William around 1825 particularly in St. Marys and St. Peters. The records may be hard to read and possibly could be in Latin. (Gulielmus is Latin for William).

Thank you Roger, for me, one of the best parts of searching my ancestors has been to learn about how they lived.
Are the records for these places on line?
These people lived and thrived here in Australia, and they were easy to trace. But there are so many people with the same names in Ireland that I get confused.
Is there anything about Catherine's marriage? Some times the boys put Owen and other certificates they put Eugene? Is this strange? It's just that they have named their children Eugene that I think this is the family name. Some times names were lost in the translation, and spelling also depended on the individual writing out the certificate. Also I can't seem to find Patrick Sullivan's Death here. He died before his mother 1870. That is all I know, perhaps he died in Ireland. They kept very close to each other when they lived here. There are 3 Patrick Sullivan's at the time here but I just can't connect them.
And I can't find Eugene Sullivan's death.
thank you for writing back to me, regards Elizabeth

I found the record below on www.irishgenealogy.ie Possibly this Owen is another child of Owen and Catherine or maybe he is a child for another couple since you show a John in 1830.
Did not find a marriage record.
The Gaelic for Eugene is Eoin which anglicized as Owen so the two names are interechangeable which explains why one record shows Eugene and the other Owen.
