  • John:

The 1852 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing shows a John Shea in Hermitage townland. Not sure how he relates to your family. http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/cork/aghada.htm

No Sheas in the 1901 census for Hermitage townland.

  • John, have a look at www.nationalarchives.ie for 1901 Census Ireland.
Go to Browse Census - then year 1901 - then Cork - then Rostillan which is the DED (district Electoral Division). In Rostillan it will show all the different Townlands including Hermitage.
It shows a Corneilus Foley a 30, Wife Ellen a 30, Son Corneilus a. Infant.
There is a Hannah Shea in Townland of Crocane Ded Rostillan age 73 unmarried.

I am very familiar with the area & Crocane & Hermitage are fairly adjacent to each other. When you browse the different townlands in Rostillan there are also other Foleys mentioned.
I dont see Corneilus Foley in 1911 Census so possible immigration.
Let us know the Names you are researching & may be able to assist you further.

    Regards Frances
