I think I may have traced my ancestors back to an 1825 parish record of marriage in Aghada. I've viewed the transcibed version on rootsireland, but would like to see the original. Is it possible to contact the parish and if so, how? Or how would track down the original document? I'm trying to find their parents' names or any further information on the family.
My ancestors were Timothy O'Brien/ Brien m. Mary Fitzgerald, 8 Feb 1825, Aghada (RC), Co Cork. Priest name was Daniel O'Flinn.

Hi re your query for marriage record.
Rev Fr Denis Kelleher Parish Priest
Aghada, Co Cork Ireland. Not sure if he would have the original registers as the rootsireland records would have been transcribed from the originals and from looking at other parish registers it is usually the names of Bride & Groom & Witnesses & officiating priest. Civil records give names of Fathers of both parties (sometimes church records can also) but these would appear on the roots ireland transcription.
As Civil Registration wasnt introduced in Ireland until 1864 marriage records from 1845 (I think).
Regards & good luck Frances -
www.nationalarchives.ie Tithe Applotment Books has a Timothy Brien appearing on records in Glanturkin Parish of Corkbeg which is quiet near aghada. This will not give you only information placing a person in a particular area at this time. Regards

The following Baptisms in Aghada RC Parish to Timothy Brien & Mary Fitzgerald: John 1826 - Mary 1829 - Catherine 1831 - Patrick 1833 - Timothy 1835. These records can be purchased on the roots ireland site. On looking at 1901 census it shows a John O Brien age 80 at house 10 in Curragh (Corkbeg) age 80, wife Hanorah age 77. Bear in mind that ages in Census were not reliable as often people only guessed at their age due to absence of a birth cert. So this may well be the John b. 1826. regards

Thank you, Frances. I don't want to accept that this may be as far as I can go, but that may be the reality. Hopefully, if I persist, I'll find a different route to more information.

Thank you for searching for records! Hopefully these leads will give more clues.
Another question for you all. I was under the impression that surname spelling could vary, such as O'Brien/ Brien, but on Griffith's for Aghada parish there is a Timothy Brien (possibly my ancestor) and his landlord is listed as Henry O'Brien. Does this make the two names separate and possibly indicate I'm on the wrong path? Or, would my family have added the O later?
