My G G Grandparents were Michael Barrett and Mary Tobin who were married in Aghada 25 Aug 1832. They came to Australia arriving 2 May 1855 on the "Bermondsey". Passenger manifests suggest Mary Tobin was born circa 1810 and that her parents were Maurice Tobin and Bridget Fitzgerald. I have located Mary's Baptism on rootsireland as follows; Name: Mary Tobin, DOB: (blank), Date of baptism: 5 Mar 1810, Address: C Crump, Parish/District: Aghada, Gender: Female, County: Co Cork, Denomination: Roman Catholic, Father: Maurice Tobin, Mother: Bridget Fitzgerald, Occupation (blank) Informant 1: James Foulowe, Sponsor 2: Mary Watts. As I am visiting Cork this year I am keen to learn more about Mary and where she might have lived. I don't understand what "C Crump" means as an address on the baptism registration? On Mary's marriage registration it gives her address as "The Union" which I am advised may refer to the 'Union of Aghada Parishes' (eg Inch, Trabolgan, Kilteskin, etc)? Is there anyone who could assist me in getting a little closer to the "Tobins". I know Mary's parents were deceased by the time they arrived here, but whether there are other descendants alive today I just don't know. Mary died in Sydney in 1878 (aged abt 68 years), outliving her husband Michael by 5 years. Any assistance would be gratefully appreciated. Regards Paul from Sydney Australia.

Pablo:
Possibly the location is Carrigacrump which is in Inch parish just to the northeast of Aghada. Aghada RC covered Inch civil parish. Many times priests abbreviated the townland name.

Thanks Roger. Looks like a strong possibility. This where local knowledge is of significant value. I'm not sure how I proceed with this knowledge at the moment but its more than I had when I posted the message. Thanks again. Paul

Got my directions wrong. Inch parish is northwest of Aghada.

Since posting my message on this board I have determined that Mary Tobin and presumably her father Maurice Tobin were from Cariagacrump which I understand is (was) a limestone quarry. This ties in with Mary's marriage to Michael Barrett as he was a stonemason. I wondered whether there are any Tobin's still in the area and/or whether the quarry is still in operation.
