I am looking for infomation on the family of Michael John Shea (b. 6 AUG 1831 in Aghada). He was the youngest of 10 children, and I do not have their names. He left for America from the Cobh port in the 1860s. We believe relatives still reside in Aghada and would like to make contact with the Shea family.

Thank you!

  • I would be delighted to help if I had some slightly more accurate information

The only access I have to Shea would be the burial records

Have you any idea if the family is still named Shea  (probably O Shea now) ???

"Clare Doyle passed your query re Michael John O'Shea of Aghada on to me. You say Michael John O'Shea went to America from Cobh in the 1860s

My name is Eddie Tucker. There are a few O'Shea families in the parish of Aghada. There are a number of people named O'Shea buried in graveyards in the parish.

However, in order to conduct a more detailed search I need to know as much as possible about the family for whom you seek the information.

If you can furnish me with that information I will endeavour to find out as much as possible for you.

The graveyard inscriptions for Aghada Parish are now available on the internet. The code names for the principal graveyards are as follows Aghada CO-AGDO, Corkbeg CO-CBEG, Garranekinnefeake CO-GKIN

Access Historic graves.ie. Then click on graveyards. A number of graveyards come up. Click on search and enter the name O'Shea. 24 pages of results will come up. Scroll down the pages for any of the code names CO-AGDO,  CO-CBEG and CO-GKIN. When the name O'Shea comes up on any of the coded names (there will be several) Click on the code name and the actual graveyard will open up for you.

There will be a photograph of the grave and the actual inscription on the headstone for each code named grave. I appreciate those instructions seem complicated but try and see how you fare.

One such is CO-CBEG 034. If you are having difficulties e mail me and I will respond to you as soon as possible. Give me a few days minimum as I am not always at home or on the internet that much.

    Best of luck,"
