Welcome back to Ireland Reaching Out! I found our exchange from 2014. Do you have the names of the parents of Patrick or Mary?

I would go back to www.irishgenealogy.ie and search the records there. It looks like Cronin was much more common in Aghadown.

Hi Graham,
Might the Patrick Scannell born to Timothy & Ellen Burke of Coolnaclehy and baptised 10 Jul 1836 be a possible candidate? Coolnaclehy is close to Aghadown Parish and it might explain the Burke witness... Yes, his age would be 5 years off, but those errors weren't too uncommon in those days... Coolnaclehy is about 6-7 miles from Aghadown parish (with Abbeystrewery parish in the middle) and ~3 miles north of Skibbereen, so it might be a stretch to have Patrick 'coming from Aghadown'.
Regards
Jerry

Hi, I am a descendant from Denis Scanlan/Scannell. The Skibbereen Heritage Center told me that Denis' parents were Jeremiah (Darby) Scanell and Biddy Cronin. Denis had a brother Patrick (1829 born in Rath) and a sister Ellen (1830 born in Rath) near Baltmore in Cork. I lost track of Pat and Ellen, but Denis and his wife Margaret Hegarty move to Aghadown, Hollyhill. The births of most of their children were registered in the distict of Tullagh. Not sure if this is the same family. -Annie

One more thing that I was told by the The Skibbereen Heritage Center - he names Scannell and Scanlan were interchangable. I struggles for awhile witht he same dilema. -Annie

I have heard of a Denis Scanlan...known as Den Scanlan...who lived in Hollyhill, Aughadown in the early part of the twentieth century. He was a well-known stonemason.
