Hi,
Thank you for your message.
Have you tried looking in church records for information?
Most Catholic records are held locally so you may need to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website that you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For Aghadown parish, follow this link:
For Church of Ireland records check http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/.
There are also some websites where there are church records available:
http://www.irishgenealogy.ie/index.html There is currently an ongoing project to upload Catholic and Churh of Ireland records here free of charge. There are only some counties uploaded so far, and for Cork only the Diocese of Cork and Ross has been uploaded-fortunately Aghadown parish is part of this!
www.familysearch.org have a huge collection of genealogical records available including some births and marriages from Ireland.
www.rootsireland.ie has a vast collection of Irish Church records, however you have to pay to use this site.
If John and Catherine were married after 1864 in Ireland, you may be able to find their marriage cert in civil records. These records are available from the General Register?s Office in Dublin. Here is their website: http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm
You can search the indexes to these registers online at https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1408347
For more information on these records go to http://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com/Irish-civil-registration.html
You may also be able to find record of either John or Catherine?s parents in Griffith?s Valuation. This was a property valuation survey carried out between 1848 and 1864. You can search this online here:
