Looking particularly for descendants of Henry (b. Feb 1829), William (b. Mar 1830), Eugene (b. Jun 1833), John Matthew (b. Feb 1834) and Albert (b. Jul 1842).  Parents were Henry Gallwey (b. 1794) of Greenfield House and Margaret McCarthy of Rathroe, Mill Street, Cork, married 1825.  I have lots of info on other menbers of the family but little on these.

  • Dear Tim

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Have you already tried irishgenealogy.ie/rootsireland for further records of these ancestors, that is, any potential marriages for the Gallwey children?

    Best wishes

  • Hi Clare,

Thank you very much for responding.  Apologies for late response but I missed your message.  Yes I have looked at both of those addresses.  I thought that maybe I could find a death notice somewhere so that I would know if it was worth even trying to find them but it seems that the people in Roscommon will not let me have that.  Any ideas on how to circumvent that if it is possible?

I wondered about newspaper announcements (e.g. marriage, death) but such papers seem to be very scarce.  Any thoughts on finding that kind of info?  What we need is a resource like Trove in Australia with scads of scanned material from newspapers over many years but I suppose that would be dreamland territory.

West Cork seems to be badly served by what systems there are.  Is there any sign of that improving in the next year or so?

I must say I think it is wonderful that you people volunteer to provide this kinnd of help.  I am lucky as a relation did a lot of the digging years back, and some family members were prominent at times, including going to debtor's prison and smuggling!  Thanks to all of you for doing a great job

    Best wishes

    Tim
