I am looking for the place of origin of ancestors who left Co. Cork and went to Australia about 1854.
The father of the family was Bartholomew McCarthy, his wife was Anne McDonald, and their daughters were Catherine and Honora. In one place Anne's name was spelled as McDonnell. She and Bartholomew seem to have been born about 1816.
Bartholomew's father had the same name and his wife was Kate Sullivan.
The Tithe Applotment Books show a Bartholomew Mccarthy holding 39 acres in the townland of Ballinluig East in the parish of Ballyfeard. This might possibly have been one of my ancestors.
Can anyone research local information to find whether the man in the book had family members as described above?
Thank you.

Hi Robert,
Thank you very much for your message.
Ballyfeard civil parish belongs to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Cork and Ross. Luckily, the records from this diocese have been uploaded free of charge to http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/ You can search here for records relating to the Bartholomew McCarthy in that parish.
Please note however, that the civil parish of Ballyfeard, belongs to the Catholic parish of Clontead so this is where you will need to look for records.
A useful website is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For Clontead parish follow this link:
If you would like to contact the local parish clergy for assistance here is a link ot their contacts page:

Also, did you also check the later Griffith?s Valuation (1848-64)?
Some other websites that you may find useful are:

I hope this is helpful. Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
