  • Lynne,

Joanne Robertson has been researching this family too. Have you compared notes with her? Her information is that James & Susanna moved to Canada c 1885. The Carmichael family appear to be from Garryduff townland and some of them are listed in the 1851 census fragment for that townland. I believe there may still be a Carmichael descendant in the area, whom Joanne met here recently. Jacob McKay?s father is recorded as James McKay b 1809 in Ballybrakes (Ballymoney) married to Mary McNish, McNeice or Menice on 4.12.1827 in Ballymoney 1st Presbyterian church. She was baptised 27.12.1809 in that church. James?s father may have been ?Beastie? McKay, a cock fighter in Ballymoney, but we have no definite proof of that. Just he is the only McKay in the town in George Millar?s ?census? compiled 1804 - 1810.

  • Lynn,

I've sent you a private message with my email address.  Please let me know if you haven't received it. James and Susanna's 2nd born child in Culramoney, was my Great Grandfather.  They came to Canada in 1885 on the Vessel: Nova Scotian, departing from Londonderry, and arriving 16 Apr 1885.

    Regards,

    Joanne Robertson (nee. McKay)

    PS:  Thanks Elwyn
