I am looking for any information about my ancestors Michael Shea and Mary Hegarty. These are my great great great grandparents. I believe they were from Cork and may have been married at the Bandon RC church in 1850. They emigrated to Boston, MA and had their daughter there in 1856.
I found two baptismal records I thought could possibly belong to Mary Hegarty. In the Cork & Ross area in the Drimoleague and Dringah parish there is a recorded baptism of Mary Hegarty, daughter of Jno Hegarty and Kate Heas on December 28, 1833 (sponsors Dan Hegarty and Mary Hegarty). The other is also in the Cork & Ross area in the Aughadown Roman Catholic Church on February 23, 1832. Parents are listed as John Hegarty and Joney Hayes and sponsors were Dennis Hegarty and Mary Hegarty.
I found a Michael Shea, age 26, on the passenger manifest list in the Massachusetss Archives, arriving on the ship the Red Gauntlet arriving in Boston on May 18, 1854.
If anyone has any other information about the Shea and Hegarty families I would be very interested. We are traveling to Ireland in a few weeks and I would love to visit the areas where my ancestors are from.

Hi Dawn, the only matching record I could find was a marriage of Michael Shea and Mary Hegarty who married on 5 September 1850 in Bandon, so you could have the right year of marriage, unfortunately there is no other information on the record but it was common to get married in the place where they bride was from, so I reckon there is a connection to Bandon,I also see a note behind Michaels name on the original marriage record, Michael Shea 47th Regiment , meaning he was a soldier in the English army at the time of his marriage. The 47th regiment could be the 47th Regiment of Foot. It is possible that Michael was based in Bandon but born elsewhere.
