My husband I will be visiting Ireland in June this year and would like to visit the towns of our ancestors, churches, cemeteries, streets etc.I have ffound the marriage of my husband's great great grandparents James Crowley and Johanna Tobin, in the church records online. It took place in Bandon on the 19th February 1833. Can someone tell me what church? I note from the image that 9 marriages are listed for that date? Was this a common? Did they have to wait for the availability of a priest or what?

  • Hi Rosemary,

Bandon is a small town so you wont have any problem in finding the local catholic church.  Weddings were not like today.  Most couples in the early 19th century had to wait for a day or afternoon off from work to get married.  Many weddings were performed very early in the mornings so that the couple could still be in time for work.
