Hello, I am looking for any mention, knowledge, or family tree that shows Michael Barrett born in Poulnamucky/Knocknaboha, County Tipperary circa 1830 was the son of a William Barrett or maybe a William Michael Barrett, born in or around the area of Blarney, County Cork. William Michael Barrett's wife could be Margaret Egan, but am not sure.
My father was John Francis Barrett, Jr born to John Francis Barrett, Sr and Catherine Hyland, both from County Tipperary, Ireland. JFB Sr was born 15 Jun 1879 in Knocknaboha, County Tipperary. JFBarrett Sr was born to Michael Barrett (a widower aged 34) and Ellen Scully (spinster aged 21), who married 7 Sep 1866 in Ardfinnan, County Tipperary. Michael and Ellen Barrett had eight children: Ellen, Catherine, Bridget, Mary, Margaret, Michael, Johanna, and John. Michael Barrett was born circa 1830 but as to whom his parents are I am not sure. No one in my family can remember. My brother says great grandfather Michael Barrett's fathere was from County Cork and I recall my father saying something about a town northwest of Blarney. Or maybe 'near' Blarney. (My father died in 1986 and the rest of his siblings have passed as well.)
John Francis Barrett, Sr and Catherine Hyland (b. 1877 in Ardfinnan to John Hyland and Johanna Cotter) emigrated seperately to the USA to New York State, specifically NY (Bronx, Brooklyn, Long Island, Kings Park, Smithtown are common locales where they initially settled) in the mid-1900s. John and Catherine were married in November 1908 in Smithtown, New York (on Long Island). They had four children named Catherine Jr b. 1909, Michael Jr b. 1910, John Francis, Jr b. 1914 and Eileen b. 1920. John Francis Barrett Sr. worked as a conductor on the Long Island Rail Road and died 1 April 1926 after a brief illness with bronchitus, brought on by a walk home in a snow storm/blizzard.
JFBarrett Sr's daughter Catherine married Jeremiah Doran in Mitcheltown and the family lived in the Ballyarthur area outside Mitchelstown. She had a son named Patrick Doran who emigrated to the USA to work in Vallejo, CA on the railroad. He married Elizabeth J Byrne, born in San Francisco, CA, and lived and died in the San Francisco area. He died in 1961 and she passed in 1984. Another of her sons, Thomas Doran, married Edith Glegg 16 Sep 1932. Reverend Snadale was the priest and witnesses were Michael Ruddy and Mary Smith.
I hope I have supplied enough family information to jog someone's memory about their family tree. I seem to recall that great grandfather Michael's first wife was from Galway as he married someone from there due to the famine (?) and sadly she died on the walk home from the wedding to his farm in Knocknaboha, Tipperary. HIs first wife was near his age and when he remarried my father said he wanted someone younger to outlive him.
Thank you,
-Robin Hastings nee Barrett

Dear Robin
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and apologies for the delay in getting back to you. I hope someone researching the family will come forward and get in touch.
In the meantime have you used ancestry.com or another sources to search family trees or messages for instances of the family name?
Best wishes

hi Robin
There are some coincidences here. I am interested in Michael Dawson who married Ellen Barrett in Mitchelstown, Cork around 1865. They had children including: Patrick, James, William, Margaret, Mary. Their daughter Mary Dawson married in Manhattan NY 1900 to Michael F Hyland and they immediately settled in Ansonia Connecticut with children including Anna C, John F, Ella B and William.

My grandfather, Jeremiah Donovan was raised in Blarney by his uncle, John Donovan who was the kand steward for the estate. His first wife was Marianne Egan. I have some information on her family. What info do you have?
