Seeking information on my great great grandmother Mary Anne Agnes Forrest born in 1837, the youngest child of Benjamin Forrest and Sarah O’Connor of Buttevant, Co. Cork. Buttevant is where her elder brother Rev. John Forrest was born in 1820. Mary Anne’s mother, Sarah O’Connor, was from a large family and “was supported by her brother Fr. William O’Connor – a poor curate” after her husband, Benjamin Forrest, had been killed while an innocent “bystander in a faction fight about 1840,” and was returned to his wife “dead on a stretcher.”
Mary Anne had emigrated and arrived in Sydney in on ship the Cairngorm on the 11 September 1860 with her brother, Dr John Forrest D.D. who took up an appointment as Rector of St. John’s College at the University of Sydney.
Seeking to make contact with a member of the Ireland XO Parish Liasion Team on my arrival in Buttevant around 25 September, 2013.
Regards
Bryan Curtin
