I am looking for a Charles McCarthy and Ellen McCarthy (Lucey) who lived in the City of Cork. Charles worked as an accountant 1842/43. Their son Charles born 1859 migrated to Australia 1875. After 1842 I have not been able to find any record of Charles and Ellen apart from the 1901 census which locates a "Charles, Ellen & son John" in this parish lived at who at 13 Dromore. I would be grateful if you could confirm if Ellen Mccarthy's maiden name is Lucey or any other information regarding this family.

Hi,
Thank you for your message.
Irish Genealogy have begun a project to upload church records to their site free of charge. It is an ongoing project so only a small number of counties have been uploaded so far, including some parts of Co. Cork so you may be able to find some records that are relevant to the McCarthy?s here. http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/
Another useful website for Catholic records is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For parishes in Cork City follow this link:
Also, civil registration began in Ireland in 1864, so you should be able to find record of the couple?s death here. Civil records are available from the General Register?s Office in Dublin. Here is their website:

You can search the indexes to these records online at:

Some other websites that may be useful to you are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
Family Search: www.familysearch.org

You could also try contacting the Cork City Ancestral Project for assistance, however a fee may apply. Here s their email: corkancestry@corkcoco.ie
I hope some of this is useful. Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,
