I hope I'm doing this correctly. I am searching for Barthomew Collins who died about 1847 and his wife Ellen Donovan who died about 1857. The information from an intestate document relating to the death of their son Timothy, leads us to believe they are buried in Caheragh. They had several Children - Timothy born about 1828, Jeremiah 1830, Catherine 1832, Margaret 1834, and Johanna 1844. We are visiting Ireland this coming April-May and would be interested to see their graves if they still exist. We would also be interested in any information that could lead us further back in our research. Timothy Collins came to America where along with his partner Michael Corcoran found a very rich gold mind in Idaho. I believe the entire family then moved to Washington DC. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, have you checked the parish resources for Caheragh parish at CorkGen ?
Also click on the Skibbereen link there to see local graveyard links and district wide resources.
A quick glance at the online Caheragh church records shows Batt (1831), Margaret (1836), John (indexed as Jone 1841), maybe a Jerry (1832) if the father Bat is indexed as Pat, same for a Catherine (1834). Unable to find a Tim or Johanna. Look at the records carefully because they are extremely difficult to read and full of transcription errors. I have a John/Johanna/Tim mixup in my own Caheragh research.
If you know of a male Collins relative a Y-DNA test registered with the Collins DNA project (through Family Tree DNA, not 23AndMe or Ancestry) could potentially be a useful tool.
I am the author and researcher of the first website and a brand new project co-admin of the Collins DNA project. Good luck with your research.

Hi Skibbgirl,
I saw your reply above and am very interest in the Collins DNA project. I am looking for my Grandmother Margaret Mary Collins Born 1894 in Ireland but don't have her exact place of birth. She came to Massachusetts USA I believe in 1913 and married Kenneth H. Nutting in Maine where her father lists as his address. I have had no luck in any further records for Denis Collins (Pat is signed on her marriage license as a witness but name is denoted for him as Denis. Her mother was not present but is indicated as Mary but the last name or maiden name is illedgible (but looks like Donnovan to me). That is only a guess. My Grandmother died in 1967 in Lee Pittsfield Massachusetts and is buried in the St. Mary's Cemetary there.
I have been looking at a family in Gurteenaduhig (Knockskagh, Cork) in the 1901 and 1911 Census who list Denis and Mary Ellen Collins with daughter Margaret in 1901 and then in the 1911 Census she is no longer listed only the other 8 children. I have found records that independently list all the same names and ages as these 9 children including Margaret as being born in Skibberdeen. I have been looking for a record of the death of Margaret Collins from this family but so far nothing.
If you can give me any assistance in finding Margaret Mary in Ireland, I would so appreciate the help. I have been searching for quite some time now. I did not know my Grandmother at all so this is my way of connecting with her now.
Thank you for any help you can offer.
