Jane, from IrelandXO – Tulla suggested I post to this web page.
Edward Maroney, and spouse Catherine McMullen left Ireland sometime around 1830 and apparently gave birth to a son Daniel W on the boat to the USA or Canada and arrived at an unknown port. They lived in Pennsylvania initially and settled in Michigan. According to the daughter (first cousin of my grandfather) of a sister of Daniel, the family came from Co. Clare however we have other information pointing towards Co Cork. It is possible on the same ship, came John Maroney, who might have been a brother or father to Edward. It is possible based on some information documented from the late 1800's, that Edward was NOT the father of Daniel, but a John might have been. We have fairly good information that Edward and Catherine had three daughters, Ellen b unknown, Margaret b1813, Bridget b1814. We also show a John b1818, Catherine b1820, Elizabeth b1822 but are unsure if they belonged to Edward and Catherine or possibly to John. Daniel W is my GGG'grandfather born approximately 1830-1831. If anyone can assist us in locating additional information in the next 5 months that would be very helpful as we are taking a family trip to Ireland this summer and my elderly father would "like to see his homeland".
Thank You, Mike Maroney

Hi Mike,
Thanks for your message. I hope that someone with information makes a connection with you and helps you to fill in some pieces before your visit.
www.familysearch.org has a huge database of genealogical records including some church records for Ireland.
www.rootsireland.ie have a large collection of Irish Church records, however you have to pay to use this site.
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/ have begun a project to upload Irish church records to their site free of charge. However so far only some parts of Co. Cork have been uploaded.
I did a quick search for the name Maroney in the Tithe Applotment Books in Co. Cork. There were only 5 listed:
Unfortunately, these so not offer any genealogical information but can sometimes be used to tie a person to a specific place. If all else fails perhaps the parishes listed can act as a starting point.
Some other websites that may be useful are:
