My husband's great great grandfather was a Patrick Lyons from Cork. Patrick was born about 1805 and married a Norah McDonnell about 1840. We know of 5 children: William (b. 1844), Ellen (b. 1848), John (b. 1852), Mary (b. 1855), and Patrick (b. 1860). Norah died before Patrick immigrated to Chicago in 1873. Patrick is buried in a family plot in Chicago, but Norah must be buried in Ieland.
Does any of this sound familiar? William is my husband's great grandfather.

Church Records:
Most Catholic records are held locally so you may need to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website that you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. It also shows you where copies of the records are available. For Castlelyons parish, follow this link:

Civil records:
Civil registration began in Ireland in 1864 so any births, deaths or marriages in the family after this date would be recorded in these records. Civil records are available from the General Register?s Office. Here is their website:

Land Records:
You could also check for record of the family in the land records pertaining to Ireland in the 19th century. There are two:
