Hi I am looking for any information on John Cussen born 29th December 1837 in Churchtown Cork. He immigrated to Australia but I cannot find any record of when or how. I think his parents were John Cussen and Julia Sheehan. I would appreciate any help or information.
Thank You

Katherine

  • Hi Katherine

In the first half of 1800 most emigrations were not recorded and ships did not create passenger records., people sometimes  traveled on normal merchant ships who did not feel the need to create records

But I will see if there is anything to be found there is always a chance

Kind regards from a sunny Churchtown North Cork

  • Hi Annemarie

Thank you for your help. I am not sure if this helps but John Cussen was a bootmaker and  bought a Bootmakers shop in Queensland Australia and later a billiards saloon, he seems like he had money or at least wasn't desperately poor.

Thanks again for your help :)

  • Hi Katherine,

My name is Angelique Gordon (nee Cussen) and I am a great-great-grandaughter of John Cussen.  John Cussen was a bootmaker and had a billard room.  I even had a relative show me his house one day (which is still there in Stanthorpe). John Cussen had a son, James Cussen (my great-grandfather) who married Mary Mollis (my great-grandmother). Anyway, James & Mary had nine children (one being my grandmother).

I have two pictures of John Cussen - it would be great if we could share information,

    Kind regards,

    Angelique.

  • Hi Angelique I have not been back to this aite for quite awhile and just received your message. I would love to share information with you. The Cussen family is my husbands but John Cussen also had a son named John & this is my husbands line. There does seem to be a lot of information out there about James. I have really hit a stumbling block on finding out how & when John (snr) came to Australia. Would you have any information?  Regards Katherine

  • Hi Catherine,

Its lovely to hear from you.  I have asked my father about why and when John (Snr) came to Australia but unfortunately he didn't know.  He will ask around some of our other relatives and I will let you know if I find out.  If you would like a photo of John Cussen, I can email you a copy.  I also have a copy of our family tree if you would like that too.  My email address is: angelique.rita.gordon@gmail.com.  Looking forward to hearing from you, Angelique.
