Looking for any information on Edmond Buckley and his family when they lived in Kanturk.  He left Ireland in 1823 on the ship "Stakesby" with three female relatives, possibly daughters.  He was 45 years old, and the females, Ellen 22, Katherine 20, and Mary 14.  They are Roman Catholic.

The ship departed from the Cove of Cork Jul 8, 1823 and arrived in Quebec, Sep 2, 1823.  The family settled in Goulbourn Township, Ontario.  Edmond died before 1826.

Katherine, I believe is my gggrandmother.  She married Patrick Nelligan, (from Doneraile), in Ontario, about 1825..  They were both on the same ship, Stakesby.

This information is from a book, Peter Robinson Settlers 1823-1825, Carol Bennett and from the McCabe List, Bruce S Elliot.

Anyone looking for information on the Buckley or Nelligan families in Ontario can contact me at michele.krogh@gmail.com.

Hope someone can help.  Thank you.

  • If you have not already tried it this is a good place to start.

You must always be aware that the spellings of surnames was open to a lot of interpretation and should not discount entries because they are not spelled they way they were later. You should always try to imagine how the name sounds since most people were illiterate and clergy wrote down what they thought they heard.
