I am just beginning research on the Callaghan/O'Callaghan families and little information to date other than the family emanated from the Clonfert/Meelin/Newmarket vicinity. One son/grandson, Daniel, born c 1911 later resided in the Milford area and then later in Ardagh parish, county Limerick. ANY bit of information would be useful and most appreciated. Thank you. Hi Bill
There are 9 Daniel Callaghans baptised 1911 + - 5 years on www.rootsireland.ie/
http://corknortheast.rootsireland.ie/quis.php?page=1&confirmPageView=Y
There is only 1 in 1911 and it is from the Meelin RC parish.

It costs to view the full record but it MAY have his parents' names.
You might want to have a look at the irish Censuses 1901 & 1911 which are free online.
There are quite a few Daniels aged 1 which might lead you to your family but Meelin isn't in the list of place names.

Hi, Col,
Thanks for your message. I have the birth record for Daniel in 1911 in Meelin from Rootsireland and feel this just might be BINGO. It does have his parents name. It is finding a source for information between 1911 and present that is going to be a huge problem as there is so little available (particularly online) for more current data. Doing this research for a friend and all I have is bits that I've been able to twist out of him He isn't knowledgeable of facts (I thinks!). Will plug away at it. The final url you provided that pertains to "&deaf&dumb...." is apparently not an operating site as I can't connect and get some damn message. Could you tell me what you saw there? I see you are in Australia. I'm a yank now living in County Cork the past 3 years. I intend to get ;north; to the Meelin/Clonfert parish area soon to see if there might be something I can wrestle out of any local sources there. I have been doing my own families genealogy for decades and even living here hasn't enlightened me much on a couple of lines in Co. Waterford. Being Irish isn't easy in this game! How has your research in Mayo gone? thanks again. Bill

Morning Bill
Thanks for the message.
Yes Irish genealogy is a frustrating pursuit! I'd like to get hold of those who destroyed the records in 1922!!
I haven't got very far on mine I'm afraid in spite of many years of trying and 3 trips to Ireland.
Even DNA testing hasn't been much use!
Sorry about the link not working; if you google Irish Census you should get the National Archives site.
If you select 1911, Callaghan Daniel Cork age 0 or 1 you'll get the pages I tried to send - there are 19of them.
However he may not have been born then so now that you have his parents' names you can search for them. Perhaps they'll be on the 1901 also.
Next step back would be the Griffiths Valuation (free online) and the Tithe Applotments (free) and now you know your way around rootsireland you can cross-check there.
I'm coming over in mid-May; as well as relatives (patner is Irish) we're going north this time. Will be having a few days in Galway and will call in to Irelandxo Office; will buy you a pint if you're around!
