Looking for ancestors and descendants of John Newman and Mary Sullivan/O’Sullivan.  John and Mary were both born c 1823.  We have no place of birth, however.  John and Mary were married 21 January 1855 at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Kanturk.  John’s place of residence was listed as Greenane.  Daniel O’Shea and Maria O’Sullivan were witnesses.

John and Mary had six children:  William b. 9 Nov. 1855; John, born 29 August 1857; Margaret christened 1 January 1859; Mollie, born 25 September 1860; Cornelius, born 3 April 1862 and Julia christened 20 November 1864.

The family immigrated to Boston, Mass., USA in April 1867 and then to Montreal, Quebec, Canada circa 1871.

John Sr. was buried 10 January 1899 in Montreal.  In the plot next to him there is a Richard Newman, born 1825 in Gurranavarrig, Kanturk, Cork, husband of Mary Joy of Liscongil.  It is likely that John and Richard were brothers.  There was a Cornelius Newman of Gurranavarrig baptized 14 January 1827 in Kanturk, the son of Cornelius Newman and Mary Connell.  Sponsors were Jeremiah Scully and Abigail Connell.  It is also likely that Cornelius was John and Richard’s brother and that Cornelius and Mary Connell were their parents.  However, we have no proof.  I understand that the records for the Church of the Immaculate Conception only started in the 1820s.

There  is a Cornelius Newman listed on the 1826 Tithe Applotment Books in Gurraneavorrig Lower (as well as a Cornelius Sullivan).  Mary Newman is listed in Griffiths Evaluation in Gurranavarrig Lower.

Any additional information welcomed.
