I'm looking for information on the parents of William "Bill" Ahern. I've looked up birth records and census records and I can't find anything. He had three siblings, Tucker, Mary and Nell. They were all born whitewell cross. Mary married Power and is buried in Garranekinnfeake. Tucker never married and is also buried in Garranekinnfeake. Nell never married but had a child with a married man, Pat Clare. He was a gardener at Castlemary. William died in 1955, I don't have a birthdate for him. He married Kathleen clancy. They are both buried in Shanagarry. apparently they were related to the man on the plaque at the loading bank across from the Cathedral in Cloyne. any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Megan

Hi Megan
I assume you don't have William's age at death in 1955?
Also, do you know which Cork parish Whitewell Cross records appear in?

Hi Col,
I'm afraid I don't, his wife was born in 1897, so I suppose anywhere between 55 to 65. Whitewell cross is the crossroads between cloyne, rostellan and saleen, so it could be any of the three i'd say. I really don't have much to go off unfortunately!

It's in Aghada R.C. Parish

Megan:
In response to Col's question, I think the civil parish was Inch.
I found a family in the 1901 and 1911 censuses which possibly is William with his parents. Note the Nellie in the 1911 record.

Possibly this is the civil marriage index record for William and Kathleen Clancy.

House 14 Castlemary (Cloyne) Cork www.nationalarchives.ie 1911 census think this may be the family you are looking for.
www.rootsireland.ie has Baptism/marriage records for Cork North East which will include Cloyne & Aghada. -
On 1911 census I think the William age 7 is the one that married Kathleen Clancy details given .

Frances:
I initally thought the grandson was the correct William but noticed that Megan thought he was 55-65 when he died in 1955 so I switched to the 16 year old son.

You could be correct Roger, but that would make him 37 when he married - still possible?

Hi I am related to an Ahern on my Grandmothers side from Cloyne. I remember hearing her talking about Kitty Ahern .I am also related to the Geary family and Dell family, which was my Grandmothers maiden name. Any information about Kitty or the Ahern family would be great. Many thanks. Lynn Cunningham
