Hi,

I have been reseaching my own family history for over twenty years. My Fathers name is HIGGINS and my Mother's maiden name was SEAGO.  I have traced the paternal and maternal families back to the mid-19th Century and late 18th century respectively.

However, I have always been stuck on my Gt. Grandfather David HIGGINS who birth is stated as in the Parish of Conna, County Cork. He came to the UK sometime between 1845 and 1860 as he appears in the Welsh Census for 1861. He married Mary O'Brian/O'Brien in 1862 in Crayford, Kent. On his marriage certificate he states his father is Richard Higgins, a Land Steward, is deceased. In the 1911 UK census he states his birthplace quite specifically as the Parish of Conna, County Cork.

Unfornunately, I have not yet visited Ireland (but, I must!) and was very pleased when I found out the Irish Record Office started putting many RC Parish registers online. This does include some records of Canna, but some of the pages for 1839/1840 are missing! Just my luck!  Although, there are many HIGGINS, I cannot find my Gt. Grandfather's baptism.

If anyone can give me some advice as what to do now, please post a reply.   Thanks............

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I checked Roots Ireland who transcribed the Conna parish records and the only baptism I could locate was one for a Mary baptized in December 1840. See transcription below. My assumption is that there are records missing for that time period and likely will never be located. I did give you a link below for the RC parish in Conna. They maybe can confirm that therre is a gap.

Let me know if you have any questions.
