Dear All,

Jerome Walsh is remembered as a Sergeant in the 6th Btn Northamptonshire Regiment on the War Memorial in my village of Wadenhoe, near Oundle, in Northamptonshire, so he must have had some connection with our village which I have not found. I have found him on the Irish National Roll of Honour, Service No.200758, residence Dillon's Cross, Cork, enlisted Oundle, Northamptonshire. The question is how did he come to be in Northamptonshire, and are there any relatives out there? He is also remembered on the Pozieres Memorial, Somme, Picardie, France. I seem to have found him on the 1901 Irish Census as a 24 yr old Grocers Assistant, single, born Cork City, staying as a nephew with Mary Reynolds, 48, at 2 St.Luke's Place, North-East Ward, Cork. I then seem to have him on the 1911 England Census as a 35 yr old Grocer, single, on his own at 30 Ashley Road, Bristol, England. There appears to be no surviving Service History, but I find he did get awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal. He is on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website.

Any help would be appreciated, please.

Kind regards,

Trevor Pocknell

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I had a look on both rootsireland.ie and irishgenealogy.ie but couldn't see any baptism record for Jerome. The latter site doesn't list his birth on their index either. I wonder if in this instance if it would be useful to contact some of the City newspapers and ask if they would add a note seeking further info about Jerome, especially given the current periods of remembrance.

The Imperial War Museum have a Lives of WWI Project that you could also add Jerome's details to - perhaps further info will come from that: https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/
