I have found on Ancestry that my ancestors Walter and Mary Croker (nee Graham) lived in Glanworth near Fermoy. Their son John, born 30 November 1817, emigrated to Sydney in 1840. If anyone can point me in the direction of any more about the Crokers, I'd be grateful. I'll be in Cork from 9016 June.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

You did not mention the religious denomination of your Crokers. If they were RC the Glanworth records do not begin until 1836. http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0054  According to a reference book I have, the C of I records start in 1805 but they are not online that I can find.

The 1852 Griffiths Valuation for Glanworth parish shows two Crokers in Sandville townland: Patrick and Richard http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/cork/glahttp://titheapplotmentboo…   The 1827 Tithe records show a Richard Croker in Sandville possibly the same Richard listed in 1852.

There were no Croker records in the 1901 census for Sandville.

Let me know if you have any questions.

  • Thank you for answering so promptly, Roger. The Crokers were Church of Ireland. I'll see if I can find where those records are and look them up when I'm in Ireland.  Thanks again for this comprehensive answer, Alison

You may want to contact the C of I church in Fermoy. http://cork.anglican.org/places/fermoy-union/ before you go.
