Patrick O'Callaghan born 1858 married Mary Ellen Day born 1867, lived at 9 Whitegate Town, Corkbeg 1911 Census. They had approx 6 children James, William, Helena, Annie, Eugene, Patrick. James married Margaret Geary who had a child called Eileen/Muriel nov 1920 Margaret Died just after childbirth. James O'Callaghan remarried and we think he moved to England. Hello Denise,
I found the marriage record for Patrick O callaghan and Mary Day in the parish of Midleton in Co. Cork in 1890. This record can be view and printed on www.rootsireland.ie . A couple usually got married in the bride's parish so I'm guessing that Mary was from Midleton. The record will probably contain the names of their father's which will help in tracing back further.
I found the baptismal records for the following children born to that couple in the parish of Aghada Co Cork.
James 1891
William 1893
Patrick 1894
these are the only records that I have found so far. Cork is covered by two websites which cover different parts. www.rootsireland.ie covers half online, and www.irishgenealogy.ie covers the other half. If Patrick moved with his family to a different part of Cork then it's possible that they would be found on the other site. I found the family as you say in Corkbeg in the 1901 census.
Hope this will help you in your search,
Kind regards,
Anne Dennehy

Hi Denise,
People are usually trying to trace backwards through time so it's a little unusual to be doing the opposite.
There are indexes on www.familysearch.org of birth marriage and deaths. there were a few James O Callaghans born in 1891 so I would suggest to you that you contact www.groireland.ie to obtain a copy of his birth cartificate. Only by doing this will you be able to separate records. There were no passenger lists between Ireand and UK.
Have you any idea of the name of his second wife? If so the genreal register office may be able to find if he married in Ireland. If not, then I can't think of anything else that may help you.
I'm sorry I can't be of more assistance. If he left shortly after 1920 then the chances are that he remarried in the 1920's. You may need to trawl through bdm in England for his death certificate.
Kind regards,
Anne

Denise:
I looked for civil marriage index records in the Middleton registration distrcit and found a record in the last quarter of 1921 for a James O'Callaghan, however, for some reason the spouse(s) names on that page (319) are not listed which is very unusual. The time period matches the facts in your message. I think if you wrote to the General Register Office and asked for a copy of this record, you would get the spouses name. A copy costs around 4 euros. I provided instructions below the index record. let me know if you have any questions.

First Name James Last Name O'callaghan Year 1921 Registered Quarter/Year Oct - Dec 1921 Registration District Middleton Volume 4 Page 319 Potential Spouse Names - Go to this link http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx In the middle of the page there are links for birth, marriage or death certificates. Hit the link for the form you want. You will likely get a screen asking for a User Name and Password. (This is a program bug that the GRO has to correct). Hit cancel and the appropriate form should come up. Print the form and complete the requested information. Also provide the information from the index record--quarter/year of the event, registration district and the volume and page number where the event is recorded. Make sure you ask for a copy which costs around 4 euros. ( A cert costs closer to 20 euros). You can also ask the GRO to e-mail the copy back to you.
