Hello,

I am looking for help in searching for my great great grandparents John and Mary O Brien. I believe that John was head gardner in Old Court Doneraile (?) . Mary was originally from Doneraile, born around 1862, her surname before marraige was either Callaghan or Coughlan, I cant be sure which. John was born In Clydeville, Mallow around 1861.Id be very grateful for any information anyone may have that may help me learn more about John and Mary, and maybe their parents too.

Many thanks.

  • Hi Fiona,

rootsireland.ie has some records which will interest you.

There were 3 Mary Callaghans and 4 Mary Coughlans / Caughlans born/baptised in 1862 in Cork.

There is a marriage record of John Brien to Mary Coghlan in Cork 1881 in Cork. I went through the parishes and found it was Doneraile RC.

rootsireland.ie is a pay site (40% off at the moment) but if you purchase this record (sorry I can't attach it on this site but can to email address) it will have parents' names on it.

I was able to search Doneraile births/baptisms 1862 for John O'Brien and got 1 match; there is another born 1862 + - 1 year so if you had his parents' names you could narrow it down.

Similarly, there is a baptism record of Mary Coghlan 1858 in Doneraile but nione in 1862.
